PT Blue Bird Tbk, not only focuses on providing public transportation services, but also supports sustainable mobility. For example, the Blue Bird Surabaya pool announced a partnership with Rekosistem later this year to create two sustainability programs. Rekosistem is a company that offers waste management services.
The first program is used tire recycling, where Blue Bird donated 100 unused tires to be processed into alternative fuel or tire pyrolysis oil. Rito Sudarmawan, General Manager of Blue Bird East Java, said that this tire recycling collaboration had actually been planned for a long time but had only just now been realized. “Through this program, Blue Bird can monitor the number of tires successfully recycled and ensure that no waste ends up in landfills,” he said at the Blue Bird Surabaya pool, Tuesday (3/4/2024).
Rito also stated that the reason for partnering with Rekosistem was because they had been given a clear picture of how used tires could be transformed into something more useful from upstream to downstream. He added that his company didn’t want to simply hand out used tires without knowing what they would be used for. He believes many unscrupulous individuals sell used tires as new.
“For example, if the tire is bald, it can be carved into a new tire if you’re careless. That’s very dangerous. But with Rekosistem, they report to us what our drivers’ used tires will be used for. Currently, only the Blue Bird pool in Surabaya is implementing this idea, and hopefully, next year, it will be implemented in other locations,” he said. “With these various achievements and initiatives, Surabaya is further strengthening its role as a key city supporting Bluebird’s vision of delivering more sustainable mobility in every aspect of its operations,” he said.
The second program is a plastic recycling class that involves Blue Bird employees in managing plastic waste and turning it into useful products.
This also raises awareness about the importance of adopting a sustainable lifestyle in the workplace. “In fact, all our employees here are required to use their own water bottles to reduce plastic waste. We provide water dispensers so they can simply refill them there,” he said.
